Finding a New Career when you are Over the Hill

Careers are like rules, they change. While many people may believe when they find their chosen career that they will be in that career for the rest of their lives, nothing could be further from the truth. People change careers and they are as likely to find the career of their dreams at the age of forty or fifty as they are at the ripe old age of twenty.

Career minded and very successful doctors have walked away from all of the pain and suffering and began successful careers in business or as an attorney who ends up seeking damages for pain and suffering that their clients endure. Business owners go back to school and get their degree in art or law or whatever it is that they realized late in life that they wanted to pursue.

Jobs are as ever-changing as the weather and many of the most educated people in the world are those who have held down several of them. Another concept on that statement is that many intelligent people always have to be doing something to keep their minds busy and with that may come many different changes in their lives. Namely, changes in careers from time to time.

Adults never become too old to change their careers and believe it or not, the people who change careers late in life, have a renewed youthful spirit. One aspect of staying young is believed by many to stay busy. Many people change careers quite a few times during their lifetime which is all the more reason they lead diverse and interesting lives.

Changing your career at any age can be a fun and exciting change to make while enabling lifestyle changes that just keep life interesting. For example, a doctor who pursues his dream as a restaurant entrepreneur will certainly miss the steady income of $200,000 a year but if the restaurant is the success that he dreams it will be; his annual income could certainly exceed even the income of a world-renowned surgeon. A medical assistant who decides to become a registered nurse will have a change of lifestyle too when her meager income of $12,000 per year more than triples upon graduation.
Career changes will endure some changes in your income but whether it decreases or increases, make certain that you will be happy with whatever it is you decide to do. If you decide to change careers, make sure you are content with the money you will find in the career choice and be sure you will like the lifestyle change ( if any ) that the career can bring about too. Regardless of what you may believe, your career becomes you and you become your career. In other words, if you choose to be an artist, then whenever someone discusses you, they probably mention that you are an artist. It’s just a fact of life.

Choose a career that you are proud to call your career. If you decide later in life that you aren’t happy with your life, look at changing your career. You’ll be happier with your new career choice unless of course, your not. Then, you can always fall back on your original career or find another one!
